As we reported yesterday, Samsung's Galaxy Note and Galaxy S3 phones appeared as part of the Olympic Games opening ceremony in London last night. Now the manufacturer (and global Olympic partner) is taking us behind the scenes, showing how Olympic staffers and opening ceremony performers have been using its Android phones. In addition appearing last night's show in Hyde Park, the Note has been used by Olympic organizers like Head of Ceremonies Martin Green in their day-to-day work preparing for the games. And it looks like Olympic volunteer dancers got shiny white Galaxy Notes for their troubles too, which is nice.
Check out the full presentation embedded above. You'll find more Android/Olympics crossover news over at this story tag.

While AT&T's been flaunting a rather patriotic red, white and blue Galaxy S III lineup since launch, the carrier's exclusive Garnet Red handset's been rather elusive so far, with pre-orders starting July 15 and deliveries expected July 29. If you've been eying Samsung's blood red $199 flagship, you'll be happy to know that we received our review unit yesterday and snapped a bunch of pictures, including comparison shots with the white and blue models. The phone is identical to its siblings other than the burgundy screen bezel and back cover, and the gunmetal rim running along its edge. It's a pretty gorgeous color scheme that's sure to attract vampires everywhere. Still unsure? Peek at our hands-on gallery below, then sound off in the comments.

What's old is apparently new again for MetroPCS subscribers. Thanks to some leaked training materials over on Howard Forums, we have a pretty clear idea of the next Galaxy S device to bow on that budget carrier's lineup -- the Lightray 4G. No, your eyes aren't deceiving you, we've seen this exact phone before at CES 2012 where it was part of Dyle's Mobile TV showcase. And that chassis you see above? It's a mostly unaltered version of Verizon's Droid Charge, although that formerly pointed chin seems to have gotten the Ashlee Simpson treatment. Spec-wise, the 4.3-inch device reportedly packs a Super AMOLED Plus display, 1.3-megapixel front-facing / 8-megapixel rear cameras, 16GB of included microSD storage (what it'll ship with onboard is unknown), HDMI-out and, bizarrely, that aforementioned TV tuner, replete with antenna. No word on when this unofficial fella's set to go legit nor which Google OS treat it'll run, but with a recently surfaced FCC doc and company slides to go off, we're sure to find out sooner rather than later.

The London 2012 Summer Olympics have begun and with all the different events going on, it's no easy task to keep track of all the results -- if you don't have an iPhone or iPad, that is! We've rounded up some of the best apps to keep track of this world event, including some that let you keep up with the results, watch live events, view beautiful photography, and even a game that lets you experience being an Olympian.
With the Official Results App you will be able to see results, live updates, calendar schedule, details of sports, medal tables, athlete profiles, and more. It also includes an up-to-date list of all athletes participating in the Olympic Games, including individual biographies, related news stories and their personal performance at London 2012.
If you're one of the lucky people who get to physically attend the Olympics, the Official Join In App is an essential planning too. From the start of the Olympic Torch Relay to the Olympics and Paralympics, the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, plus all the cultural, city and community celebrations happening across the UK.You can also plan the best route to get to competition venues, view detailed maps, news, photos and social commentary from the Games, and more.
NBC is official broadcaster of the the Olympics in the US and you can follow every event from London, including real-time results & schedules, medal counts and TV & Online listings with their free NBC Olympics app. And during the nightly Primetime Show televised on NBC, the app will feature a second screen experience that makes a great companion to the on-air broadcast! Unfortunately, this isn't the greatest, most well-designed app in the world, but it's something.
In addition to the NBC app we just mentioned, there is also the NBC Olympics Live Extra iPhone and iPad app. With this app you can watch the 2012 London Olympic Summer Games live. This includes alternate camera views, plus full replays. You can also follow your favorite events and receive push notifications for event start times. Just as with NBC's other app, this one isn't anything amazing, but the US is unfortunately restricted to have no other choice. You must have a cable or satellite subscription to login to NBC Olympics Live Extra.
Looking for some awesome Olympic photography? The Reuters Olympics London 2012 iPhone and iPad app does just that! All the photographs are taken by Reuters award-winning photographers and can be searched by sport or simply browsed through in the daily stream.
