After waiting years for someone to deliver the first
RVU-capable multiroom DVR setup, info leaked to
SatelliteGuys indicates we only have to hold out one more week for DirecTV's
HR34 DVR. While DirecTV has yet to make an official announcement, retailer info states that it will be available starting Thursday for just $99 after rebate ($399 rack rate), bringing five tuners, 1TB of storage,
whole home DVR service in up to four active rooms, and more. Of course, we'll need to see some of the RVU-compatible HDTVs mentioned (
Samsung 6000, 6400, and 6420 series) released before we can
ditch the extra satellite TV boxes for good, but this is the first step. Hit the source link for more details including a full spec sheet PDF.

For controlling so many TV’s you think they would have put a decent sized memory capacity on this. I know I can fill a terabyte rather easily and although it can connect to an external hard drive, I heard that when it’s connected you can’t access the DVR. I had a peek at the Samsung TV’s at CES and they were nice, but I’m more impressed with the Hopper and Joey that were introduced at the event. The Hopper is a whole-home DVR solution with Joeys as companions. The Hopper has two terabytes for 250 hours of HD recording and it has an expanded storage when connected with an external hard drive, so I can actually create a library of content I love. Other features like the Prime Time Anytime make the Hopper stand out in comparison to the HR34, and I know that as more info is released by my job, the Hopper is only going to prove itself better. Still not sure on when DISH will release the Hopper itself, but I’m definitely looking forward to it.
