DirecTV's latest HD interface comes to the five tuner HR34 DVR

DirecTV HD user interface
Even if you don't have DirecTV, you've probably heard of the HR34 if you're into DVRs. That's because it's the only DVR from a provider that can record five HD shows at once and it also works in multiple rooms of the house thanks to RVU. All that upside came with a big downside, though, the old and ugly DirecTV DVR user interface. We figured it was only a matter of time before DirecTV's new HD user interface made it's way to the big daddy, and now Solid Signal reports that it's everything you've been waiting for with only slight differences from the HR24. No word on exactly when this update will roll out to HR34 DVRs everywhere, but we suspect it can't be long now.

  1. That looks like a nice upgrade. I was very surprised that DirecTV would release their new flagship receiver with the out dated and visually displeasing SD interface. Why have a great new machine with ugly old software on it? I didn’t have that problem when I upgraded to the new Hopper DVR from DISH. Their menus are crisp, clean and modern. The best part is the speed of the Hoppers interface, it so quick and responsive. Working for DISH I know this is due to the 750 MHz processor that powers the Hopper, it’s the fastest receiver around!

    1. I guess DirecTV isn’t the only company that can update their DVRs. Dish sent me an upgrade for my Hopper last week with a new function called Auto Hop. I discovered my new favorite feature last week when a coworker from Dish told me about Auto Hop. I went home that night and tried it out on an episode of Law and Order: SVU stored by Primetime Anytime. A popup came on screen and asked me if I would like to skip all of the commercials for that episode. Who would say no to that? I watched the entire episode without interruption and found that I was much more engrossed with the show when I am not pestered by commercials.
